The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has enjoined banks to report any unethical practices that borders on dishonesty and lack of integrity among others, in the action/behaviour of CBN staff that visit their organisation in the course of performing their duty.
This directive is contained in a circular to all banks and discount houses signed by Director of Banking Supervision, Mrs. Tokunbo Martins, which the apex bank released on Wednesday.
The CBN said such report or observation, which should contain detailed information to enable the apex bank act promptly, should be sent directly, confidentially or anonymously by post to the Head, Ethics & Anti-Corruption Office, Governors’ Department, CBN head office in Abuja.
Alternatively, aggrieved banks were encouraged to send the report by e-mail to email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org or sent to dedicated telephone lines.
The CBN reiterated its commitment to its established policy of zero tolerance standard of honesty and integrity as it relates to its members of staff performing their duties in any of the banking institution.
To uphold the standard, the CBN added that a monitoring procedure to ensure that business ethics and professionalism have been established.
