D’banj And His Many Comebacks

Music act, Daniel Oladapo Oyebanjo aka Dbanj has indeed fallen from grace to grass.

Years back, the defunct Mohits Record artiste was the biggest thing to happen in the Nigerian music industry, as he became popular with words such as “Kokolet”, “Mamalet” and the phrase “No Long Thing.”

Then, he was the new prince of the entertainment industry if not the King.

Over the years, ideological differences saw him parting ways with his closest buddy and label mate, Don Jazzy, a move that would see him falling seemingly irreversibly into the abyss of the once famous artistes category.

Since D’banj’s fall he has struggled to return to his fame days to no avail, as a musical pact between him and American rapper Kanye West has since gone sour. The expected fame and fortune that was anticipated when D’banj signed unto Kanye’s Good Music didn’t come at all and the DB Record act was soon faced with reality; his time as a star was fast fading off and fast too.

To save a career that was fast dying D’banj plunged into events organization brought in names such as 2Chainz and more recently Blac Chyna and Amber Rose to his parties all in a bid to create a buzz that could launch him back to his favoured days to no avail.

His 10th year anniversary which saw Blac Chyna and Amber Rose coming to Nigeria, has been described as debasing, as many said D’banj brought in two of the world’s most popular strippers to celebrate obscenity and perhaps rubbish Africa’s heritage.

The initial buzz which greeted his partnership with Heritage Bank Plc and Ministry of Agriculture has since died down like everything ill-planned, as his “Cocoa Na Chocolate” song has since found its way to the archive despite featuring several music stars.

D’banj’s most recent comeback plan saw him collaborating with Oritsefemi in the remix of the latter’s song ‘Double Wahala’, a song that failed to generate as much positive reviews as the original version.

The DB Records artiste many failed attempt at coming back has had many wondering if he would return to his favoured days or if his time has passed.
