Saraki Wants Commitment From Leaders

President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, on Thursday, said that with the multifarious challenges militating against the nation, unity of purpose, team work and sincere support for the leadership remained the key factors needed to achieve sustainable development.

Saraki, while receiving a delegation of the Oil Producers Trade Section of the Lagos Chambers of Commerce, (OPTS), led by Mrs. Elizabeth Proust, said dialogue with stakeholders and creative thinking by top officials of the government will go a long way in finding solutions to the problems of the country

He called on all stakeholders in the Nigerian project to demonstrate commitment and patriotism in maximizing the economic potentials of the country.

He added that personal gains or pursuit of narrow interest will only bring the nation backward.

According to him: “We recognize the need to carry every stakeholder along in the quest to build one prosperous nation.

“We will bequeath to Nigerians an efficiently run government that will fulfill their yearnings and aspirations. Ours is to make new laws and repeal laws that are not fashionable.

“We will reform agriculture, education and health sectors, strengthen the fight against insecurity of lives and property and be more proactive in our oversight functions,” Saraki assured.

In her remarks, the leader of the group, Mrs. Proust said the purpose of the visit was to see how government can harmonize the resources and enhance the growth in the Oil and Gas sector in the country.

Also, Senator Saraki received Commissioners from the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) and solicited for continued support and cordial working relationship between the Senate and the Commission.

Senator Saraki who acknowledged the responsibilities of the Commission and their relevance to the achievement of the goals of the law-making body charged the Commissioners to continue to abide by the provision of the Acts that established the commission.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Adamu Mohammed Fika, who congratulated the Senate President and the leadership of the Eighth Senate for the success recorded in the elections, said this is the first visit by the Commission to the National Assembly.
