Former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led government in the state of being jittery of his connection at the federal level.
According to him, the state government is afraid of the fact that the politics of the state will be controlled and determined by him if he was eventually considered for political appointment under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Amaechi said this in Abuja at the reception organised in his honour by his friends on Sunday Night in Abuja.
His position was corroborated by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who at the event described the former Rivers State Governor as a dogged fighter who helped put the All Progressives Congress (APC) into power at the federal level.
According to him, the fight Amaechi mounted against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led Federal Government was instrumental in pushing the PDP out of power and giving the leeway for the APC to assume power at the federal level.
Amaechi explained that the PDP led government in Rivers State is carrying out a campaign of calumny against him in the bid to dissuade the president from considering him for political appointment.
“The current governor of Rivers State and PDP are afraid of me getting appointment at the national level, because that will determine the politics of Rivers State.
“They know that the current president abhors corruption and the only way to stop me from getting appointment is to paint that picture of corruption.
Ameachi challenged the people’s of Rivers State to stand up and defend him by telling the world the “truth” he stood for.
“When the trouble between me and the former president started, as chairman of governors forum, the oil subsidy was N300 billion under president Obasanjo, it remained the same under Yaradua, six months of president Goodluck Jonathan, the oil subsidy rose to N1.9 trillion, is it that the country now doubled it population or bought more machines or started manufacturing? As chairman of Governors forum, I was in a position to get my own share of the N1.9 trillion but I chose the part of honesty and truth, you cannot catch me being dishonest.
In his remark, the vice President, Yemi Osinbajo applauded Ameachi for his doggedness on the road to APC’S victory in the last presidential elections adding that such feat was worthy of celebration.
“I agreed with everything that has been said about Rotimi Ameachi absolutely. One thing no can deny about him is his tremendous courage; he stood up not just against President Jonathan but the entire establishment
