A Grade 1 Area Court in Karu, Abuja, on Thursday, granted N150,000 bail to a maid, Blessing Suleiman, 18, of Asokoro, Abuja, in alleged theft of 650 dollars from her employer.
The Judge, Hassan Ishaq, granted bail to the maid with a reliable and reasonable surety in like sum.
Ishaq ordered that the address of the surety must be verified by an officer of the court.
He also said that the surety must submit his or her drivers licence or national identity card with the court’s registrar.
Earlier the prosecutor, Cpl. Adamu Tukur, had told the court that Suleiman’s employer, Junyie Mao, who also resides in Asokoro, Abuja, reported the matter at Asokoro Police Station on Aug. 3.
Tukur said the accused allegedly stole the 650 dollars from the complainant’s wallet which he kept in the drawer of his room.
He added that the maid took the money when she went to tidy up Mao’s room, noting that the stolen money was equivalent to N 143,000.
The prosecutor said the offence of theft contravened the provisions of Section 289 of the Penal Code.
However, the maid pleaded not guilty to the offence and the matter was adjourned until Nov.
