Renowned writer and publisher, Dr. Arthur Nwankwo, has called for the implementation of the recommendations of the 2005 and 2013 national conferences organised by President Olusegun Obasanjo and President Goodluck Jonathan respectively.
Nwankwo, in a write-up to herald his 73rd birthday coming up on August 19, 2015, said that the recommendations of the conferences held the key to the salvation of the country, adding that to ensure a smooth implementation, there was need for Nigerians to have a round-table discussion on how to go about it.
The author, who said that he had led a global campaign against dictatorship in the country, revealed how his residence was raided by Abacha boys, abducted and thrown into detention, and his younger brother, Victor, was assassinated, adding that that did not deter him.
He said: “As an apostle of democracy, I have led a global campaign against military dictatorship in this country. On my return to Nigeria, my residence was invaded in Mafioso manner by Sani Abacha dogs of war, abducted and thrown into detention.
